I receive questions from many people, around the world, wondering if their wide array of symptoms and vague, multiple diagnoses…could actually be Lyme Disease. In short, my answer is that there are millions of people walking around this planet just waiting for the perfect storm to set off their currently dormant Lyme, and millions more actively fighting the disease and the healthcare system, simultaneously.
Lyme truly is everywhere, literally everywhere you can think of, minus Antarctica. It can be brought into your backyard by way of deer, rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, your pet cat or dog….and the favorite hosts for ticks, mice and birds. You may want to think twice about your beautiful bird feeders (if your health is of importance to you, that is).
So, could you have Lyme Disease (aka Borreliosis, or B. burgdorferi)?? Let’s see. Do you live near or go anywhere with grass? Trees? Do you have pets? Have you ever been bitten by a tick? Have a bullseye rash, or rash after a tick bite, or bites from a spider, mosquito, fleas or mites? Ever have a ‘flu’ in the summer, or warmer months? Bell’s Palsy? Have you or your children ever gone to summer camp? Campgrounds? I could go on and on, but I think the symptom checklist located in the ‘polls’ section can help you determine whether or not you may need to seek medical attention. A ‘Lyme Literate’ doctor (LLMD) is recommended, and you can find one in the ILADS link, or there are many Facebook groups dedicated to particular states or cities, where people who live nearby may be able to help guide you.
The Lyme spirochete is a clever little corkscrew-like bacteria, that evades what little testing is available to us, and invades our blood, nervous system, muscle, tissue, bone, joints, organs…I think you get it, everything, even the brain and heart. If you can’t shake the feeling that something just isn’t right, and you’ve been to multiple doctors, tried countless medications, exhausted all avenues….you have come to the right place! I want to help YOU get back to living, because I know all too well what it is like to simply exist. Life is too short, and I don’t want anyone to waste another minute wondering, or questioning your sanity! It took two and a half years to get my proper diagnosis, and in 2015, that is far from being acceptable. We have a wealth of knowledge at our fingertips. Don’t ever let a doctor tell you to “stay off the internet, it will just scare you..you’re fine”. You know your body, and the internet gave me the information that I needed to diagnose five of my six conditions, which led me to the right doctors to confirm. It also allowed me to connect with some of the most amazing people, fighting the same battles, that bonds you in a way that is deeply unique. So, having said that…please continue looking through the site, and I wish you health and happiness!
